Hello everyone! Homemade jams are becoming a thing for me and my family! After my homemade strawberry jam, I’m sharing with you my healthy homemade cherry jam! It’s cherry season now in Lebanon so expect some healthy and easy recipes using cherries and this jam in particular. This jam lasts for up to 2 weeks because it has no additives. You can bake with it too so get creative!
Store-bought jams are loaded with sugar. Loaded. We really don’t need tat much sweetness when fruits have sugar already! Most importantly, this recipe adds just a little bit of sweetener because cherries are a bit on the sour fruits side.
My jam motto is clear and precise: fruits + a bit of sweetener + a bit of lemon juice. That’s it! You can use this method to make ANY fruit am you like! Today it’s Cherry Jam!
Healthy Homemade Cherry Jam
- 1 kg fresh cherries pitted
- 1/4 cup sugar or dry sweetener of choice
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
Place the pitted cherries with the sugar or sweetener in a saucepan on medium heat.
Stir until sugar is dissolved. Add the lemon juice and stir again.
Lower heat and let the cherries simmer until they reduce in size, darken in color and juice becomes a bit thicker.
Once thickened, transfer to a jar and leave the jam at room temperature until completely cooled.
Store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
